ICNOS Adventures is an Italian Tour Operator based in Vietri sul Mare on the Amalfi Coast.
ICNOS Adventures was founded in 2008 by two friends, Anna & Marcello, thanks to their shared passion for hiking in Italy and to their wish to have a green job, preserving & protecting the land for future generations and promoting worldwide the territory where they were born.
“We live in Italy and we love Italy for its rich history, architecture and landscapes and we are very proud to be working and promoting Italian walking holidays, cycling trips, cultural & gourmet vacations and unforgettable Italian memories, providing our local assistance to follow up each step of your next Italian experience. Our main purpose is to contribute locally to the economic and social improvement, through our intimate knowledge and our real passion for our Country, preserving cultural heritage and environment, and enhancing the local identity by promoting practices that will be economically sustainable”
"Marcello was born and raised in Cava de' Tirreni, a town with a rich history located between lush green hills in Southern Italy. He grew up having as backyard the wonderful Amalfi Coast. Curious and always looking for different points of view, his passion for flying brought him to successfully attend a course to be a pilot (SPC). He specialize in management of sustainable tourism and he does his best to transfer the principles of sustainability in every service that ICNOS Adventures provides, keeping in mind the value of the comfort after an active day. He has travelled extensively through Europe, North Africa, New Zealand, North & South America using all means of transportation. He has walked some of the best trails in the world and thought to share his homeland’s paths and Italian “way of life” with the travelers from all around the world. He spends much of his time directing the operations of our Italian hikes, exploring new Italian destinations and working with the guides to make your trips better. He loves visiting new places with his wife Daniela, jogging in his town very early in the morning, travelling by his BMW motorcycle, reading good books, relaxing in his orchard and last but not least... eating good local food. Marcello is an experienced adventurer and has firsthand experience of all our ICNOS Adventures."
"Anna was driven to found ICNOS Adventures by a true passion for the green economy applied to the principles of sustainable travel. An avid hiker and cyclist, she has travelled across both western and eastern Europe; she lived in Oxford and in Rome before returning to the Amalfi Coast, deciding to live in one of the most beautiful coastline in Italy. Economics graduated, she specialized in ethical finance and became a volunteer promoter for the creation of the Ethical Bank in Italy. Thanks to her enthusiasm for the World Fair Trade Organization she promotes the Fair Trade products & ethical behavior in ICNOS travel plans. Italy offers so many archaeological & cultural wonders, so many wonderful hikes are waiting to be discovered and Anna loves to share Italian history and natural marvels with international travelers. Anna believes in the value of the "beauty" meant as a moral value, as well as aesthetics and with this spirit, during the preparation of each tour, she develops memorable walking & gourmet experiences in Italy. Anna likes the "cinema d'essai" and enjoys reading for hours near the sea or in the shade of a tree in the mountains. When she is not travelling or working, she loves getting involved in environmental organization works."
"Born in Mesagne, Anna Rita is a cycling guide totally in love with her home-region, Apulia or better, as Italians say, Puglia. Her relevant interest for cultural diversity aims her considerable awareness and commitment for social voluntary activities and she soon realizes to love the idea of travelling as an opportunity of personal cultural growth. For these reasons she earns a degree in Modern Languages and since then she starts to work in the tourist sector and as didactic expert of sustainable mobility, promoting and participating to many projects about road safety. She continues to work in many social voluntary activities and, since 2005, Anna Rita invests her energies mostly offering tourist services related to the bike tourism."
"Ferruccio is an active rider, a passionate sportsman and nature lover. He is in the board of a cycling team based in Rome, in which he promotes a sound approach to sport and the spread of cycling as a healthy and environmentally friendly activity. His specialty is mountain biking, because he feels it puts him closer to nature and fulfils his spirit of adventure and discovery of places and landscapes. He loves hiking, experiencing a more intimate approach to nature with the pleasure of taking care about the smallest details of a journey. As licensed tour leader he carries out duties of escorting ICNOS small groups, he loves setting up hiking excursions, planning new routes... always looking for new passages and approaches. He is a photo enthusiast and expert on GPS devices and has developed a 15-year-long working experience in IT companies."
"Francesca was born in Genova, the main town of the beautiful Ligurian coast. She is a geologist and a certified hiking guide. She worked for an oilfield company in Texas for few years, but today her main goal is always looking for new corners of Liguria. Her big passion is to join together nature, tradition and food, working in Liguria and Piedmont, the region of her father, where the soft rolling hills together with truffles, cheeses and wines create the perfect mix!! The steep cliffs and the medieval hamlets of the Cinque Terre National Park, the wild slopes and the fishing villages of the Park of Portofino create her ideal environment to discover the traditions of this ruggedly beautiful land. Francesca is working as guide since 13 years and is always enthusiastic to meet new people and to involve them in the knowledge of these landscapes. She is a keen expert of the local rocks, plants, fish and a very good cook of the local pesto and focaccia."
At ICNOS Adventures, we take the idea of responsible tourism to heart. We live and work here. Our friends and family work and live here. We love Italy and its people. We have a deep vested interest in supporting and promoting tourism that is sustainable and non damaging to the local environment and culture.
So what is responsible tourism? This is the philosophy by which we design our tours and choose our operators and accommodations. Keep a higher percentage of the income from tourism in the local area.
In conventional package tourism up to 90% of the cost of your holiday leaves the destination. We choose local, usually family owned, hotels and restaurants. Our guides are hand picked and usually from the villages that you pass through. This starts and fosters a local industry of people who work and live in the areas and for the local area and people by creating jobs.
By using and supporting local businesses we Respect and Encourage the local cultures. Basically, when small groups of conscientios guests visit a locality to learn and enjoy the food and culture, jobs are created locally.
Visitors get the authentic exposure (not to mention food!) and people can earn a living in the towns and villages that they would otherwise have to leave to find gainful employment.
All of our vendors have been selected for their commitment to minimizing the impact on the environment.
In addition to using public transportation whenever possible, we choose albergos that recycle and restaurants that use local foods. Local businesses have always been thrifty, and have readily adapted to waste recycling and water conservation.
By using locally grown foods, restaurants reduce needless waste and support local farmers.
Sustainable Rural Development Project
We believe that our journeys should respect and benefit local people and the environment in the villages in which we operate. That is why we have chosen to support a sustainable development project in different villages of our region, supporting Clean up the World.
A global campaign that inspires and empowers communities to clean up, fix up and conserve their environment. Held in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme, it mobilises an estimated 35 million people across 130 countries each year.
By allocating a portion of the revenues from our trips directly to the support of a meaningful, sustainable development project in the country we visit, we aim to maximize respectful interaction with the local people and culture, minimizing our impact on the environment.
In line with our values, ICNOS has chosen to do our banking with the “Banca Etica”, the Italian ethical bank concerned with the social and environmental impacts of its investments and loans.
Ethical banks are part of a larger societal movement toward more social and environmental responsibility in the financial sector. This movement includes: ethical investment, socially responsible investment, corporate social responsibility, and is also related to such movements as the fair trade movement, ethical consumerism ect.
Ethical banks are regulated by the same authorities as traditional banks and have to abide by the same rules. While there are differences between ethical banks, they do share a common set of principles, the most prominent being transparency and social and/or environmental aim of the projects they finance.
ICNOS, in accordance with its core values, provides to the customers a diversified and integrated range of tourist services. Our journeys are developed respecting the principles of responsible and sustainable tourism, helping communities and local businesses.
All our local providers have been carefully chosen to offer a wide variety of services. We propose the best possible service in line with one’s allocated budget.
According to tour operators requirements and needs, our expertise includes travel management (accommodations, luggage transfers, local information) and organization of specialized activities (…such as walking/hiking, biking, kayaking, cooking classes, sailing, riding, wine tasting, yoga…).
As local agent, ICNOS delivers professional assistance, emergency support, local knowledge for organizing group and individual experiences, and takes care of every single participant…
